Description
A pink lotus opens inside this marble. Its petals are edged in white and deepen to rose toward the center, where a cluster of pale golden stamens catches the light. Turn the marble over and the same flower becomes a closed bud seen from beneath, held by leaves striped in light and dark green.
The flower is a single three-dimensional murrine. It begins in the flame as a cane with the lotus running through it, which is then sliced into chunks. Each chunk is shaped further: one end is closed off, and the other, which is usually opened out, is instead gently narrowed here, so the petals curve inward like a real lotus cupping its center. The leaves are made separately and added afterwards, and the whole bloom is encased in crystal-clear borosilicate glass.
3-D murrine are usually small enough to sit inside a pendant or a cane. A murrine this large is rarely attempted, and a single bloom filling an entire marble is, as far as we know, a format of its own.
One of a kind. Diameter: 36mm / 1.4″
